Born in Brazil, after completing her studies at school, was awarded a scholarship by Italian Government Educational Program for her Master Degree in the Academy of Fine Arts Pietro Vanucci and University for Foreigners in Perugia / Umbria – Italy.

Back in Brazil studied Architectural Design. She worked as Office Director of Ethicon Brasilia.

She joined the Pao de Acucar Group as Director of Marketing.

In 1990, married to Mr Tariq Afridi, Ambassador of Pakistan in Brazil and moved to Pakistan Mission in Amman – Jordan, where he had been appointed as Ambassador of Pakistan. Subsequently lived in Jordan, Portugal and Libya, where her husband served as Ambassador of Pakistan.

On his retirement in 1999, she returned to Islamabad – Pakistan and continues to live here since then.

Founder / Chairperson

After losing her only child, 19 years old, in a drug related accident in 2014, decided to turn personal tragedy into a Foundation to help others.

Primarily aiming to work on drugs awareness amongst the youth (aged between thirteen to nineteen).

Developed five core pillars of the Foundation – Drug Awareness, Environment, Sports, Arts & Culture and Civic Sense.

She has attended and participated in the following International Conferences/Session:

  • Twice attended the UN General Assembly Special Session on world drug problem in New York in 2016. The contributions of KKAWF are available on official website of UNODC.
  • Regional Conference with 7 Countries in Tehran – July 2016.
  • The Sixtieth session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), Vienna, March 2017.
  • The CND Inter-sessional meeting on supply reduction, law enforcement, responses to drug related crime with intervention in Vienna, October 2017

Nasser is Chairman of Jaffer Group of companies. As an experienced team leader with knowledge of management processes, he provides leadership towards the achievement of the organization’s annual and long-term goals. He also assures the relevant stakeholders always see the organization’s mission, programs, products and services as strong elements of the organization. Overlooking the overall business, volume growth and profitability of the organization, Nasser Jaffer keeps the stakeholders informed and satisfied with the business results. Under his leadership and sterling guidance, the Group has progressed successfully while keeping focused on the company’s shared values.

Educated at St. Patrick’s, Karachi, and California University, Mr Jaffer is a non-executive director of Shell Pakistan and a member of the advisory committee of HSBC bank.

He served as Chairman, Pakistan International Airlines.

He is on the boards of other business, philanthropic, social and health associations such as The Kidney Centre and Honorary Secretary Modern Club and Modern Society. He also held office as the Honorary Consul of the Philippines until 2010.

EU-Unplugged HUM SATH HAIN Programme | Pakistan

The Ministry of Narcotics Control, in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training, European Union and Karim Khan Afridi Welfare Foundation (KKAWF) conducted the training programme, Unplugged ‘Hum Sath Hain’ for Teachers to educate students from grades 5-8 (aged 10-14). This life skills program aims to help them cope better with the difficulties they face, as well as making better life choices, with the long term goal of drug prevention. The teachers were trained in Islamabad at the Oil & Gas Training Institute (OGTI) in Islamabad by European Master Trainers – Mr. Peer van der Kreeft (Co-Creator of the Programme), Mr. Johan Jongbloet, Ms. Oihana Rementeria, Dr. Akanidomo Ibanga, Ms. Helena Fialova and Mrs Lubna Ghani Hayauddin.

Formulated and provided suggestions on legislative framework and implementation of existing policies as a member of the sub-committee on prevention and awareness. Submitted these suggestions to and advised the prime minister’s focal person on narcotics control, Andleeb Abbas.

Provide teacher-specific trainings at schools on the Unplugged curriculum, combining social learning theory, social norm theory, knowledge of drugs, and life skills in order to prescribe a holistic, preventative approach to drug education.

Organize and execute the annual “Save Tomorrow” event on International Overdose Awareness Day, to both allow people a chance to grieve and commemorate those lost to overdose, as well as show participants healthy alternatives to drug usage vis-à-vis sports exhibition matches.

PROFILE

I obtained my Master’s in developmental psychopathology, with a dissertation on identity development in adolescents vis-à-vis perceived parenting styles. I am currently completing my certification as a Master Trainer under the Universal Prevention Curriculum, having satisfied the requirements to become a Trainer of Trainers under the same project by holding a training session at the ANF Academy on prevention science, school-based prevention interventions, and media-based interventions. This was delivered to 14 APS principals, a selection of police officers, and the academy’s director. Independently, I run a home tutoring centre for out-of-school children to help integrate them back into systems of institutionalized learning.

I specialize in finding creative solutions to make education engaging and therefore more effective.

Naeem Sarfraz

Naeem Sarfraz is a former Naval officer, retired shipowner, businessman and philanthropist.

He joined the Pakistan Navy in 1959, where he served for 15 years. During his naval career, he had a variety of operational roles, including command of three warships and as Staff Officer to the Fleet Commander. Naeem participated in both the 1965 and 1971 India-Pakistan wars. He is a graduate of the Royal Naval College Dartmouth, and as a cadet, was part of the Royal Navy’s aid to civil power operations in British Guyana. He specialized in Navigation and Tactics at the Royal Navy School of Navigation, HMS Dryad.

After resigning from the navy in 1974, Naeem served as captain of several merchant ships. Eventually, he set up his own ship-owning business, based in New York, owning and operating a fleet of ships worldwide, which he ran for 16 years. He returned home to Pakistan in the early 90’s.

Naeem established the Fazaldad Human Rights Institute, which he chairs. He has written extensively in national newspapers, and spoken at numerous international conferences on security issues, as well as issues related to human rights.

Naeem has served on a number of government task forces and committees over the past 20 years. He was appointed Chairman of the government’s Task Force on the Maritime Industry to help revamp Pakistan’s ports and shipping. He is also the driving force behind a major national initiative to utilize Pakistan’s inland waterways for transportation.

Chairman and CEO of the Inland Water Transport Development Company (IWTDC), which is wholly owned by the Government of the Punjab. He conceived of and established the IWTDC with the support of the Chief Minister of the Punjab province. The mission of IWTDC is to create an inland water transport system along the corridor of Indus River from Port Qasim to Nowshera maintaining a reliable, safe, environment friendly and cheap inland water transport system for the economic prosperity of the country and its citizens.

Amb (Retd) Ashraf Jehangir Qazi

In 2004, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan had named him as the head of the UN mission in Iraq where he helped co-ordinate humanitarian and reconstruction efforts. Before this appointment, he was serving as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States in Washington, D.C.

In 2007, Qazi was appointed as a special representative of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Sudan. He completed his tenure in Sudan in 2010. Between 2004 and 2007, he was the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in charge of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq.

Between 2002 and 2004, Qazi was Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States. Before that, he was Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India since 1997 and ambassador to Syria (1986–88), East Germany (1990–91), Russia (1991–94), and later to China (1994–97). While at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, he served as director of East Asia (1975–1978), director-general for Policy Planning, Afghanistan (1982–1986) and Additional Foreign Secretary for Policy Planning, Afghanistan, Soviet Union and Eastern Europe (1988–1990). He also has had diplomatic assignments in Copenhagen, Tokyo, Cairo, Tripoli and London.
